Dreaming of Spring Gardening in the Middle of a Wisconsin winter part 2

It's not 9 a.m. yet, and I am almost through today's list of chores. I weeded the garden, picked my first two Supersweet 100 cherry tomatoes, did some additional staking of the taller tomato plants and completed a bevy of household chores.

If only I didn't need to mow! Yesterday, I really realized how tall the grass was when I temporarily "lost" the ducks. The runners were calmly lying in the yard, but only the very tips of their heads peeked out from the tall grass. At least the weather isn't sweltering, and no storms are predicted until tomorrow night.

None of the fields around me have standing water now. But, the Des Moines River is overflowing in this county and ones up north. Yesterday, I drove by one of the restaurant-bars in my old neighborhood. The river was spilling out of its banks, and Amigo's owner had wrapped black plastic about four feet up around the entire exterior of the building.

I'm less excited about the chick sale Monday. Online, it appears McMurray is sold out of all of its Bantams. And, although the company recommends ALWAYS vaccinating for Marek's, chicks purchased at the sale will NOT be vaccinated, even if requested. Maybe I won't need to prepare as much as I thought.

At least the speakers and sessions still look good.

Now I'm curious as to what they will have.

Husband went crazy and cut the big field down. We will see if it can dry by Monday. The plan was to cut it yesterday, but of course it rained all day, which the day before it wasn't supposed to.

My lettuce is starting to bolt, so pulling that out. The cucumbers are starting to climb the trellis. Still waiting on a tomato. Gotta wander out there and see.
