Dreaming of Spring Gardening in the Middle of a Wisconsin winter part 2

My back feels pretty good today. :)

Barb I always heard that about tomcats, but it never was my experiences. The males seem to like helping to raise kittens.

We got zero rain yesterday Jim.

Hey Kelsey. :frow
How are you!? Apparently it’s supposed to rain here Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday which is good cause we need it lol

I'm doing okay. Hopefully we get more rain. Yesterday I stood out there watering. Can't pick which was worse, the sweating or the biting bugs. Both reminded me how much I dislike summer.

I don’t know whether to water my plants or not because it’s hot out but it’s going to rain in a couple days. And it just rained the other day but the other day it barely rained I think. They seem to be doing okay. Fantastic actually. So maybe less water is better. Idk. But a couple seem a little droopy.

Mine are in raised beds so they need more water on average. I'm trying to do every other day for now.

My cucumbers are growing but not producing much yet. I see one large tomato starting to turn. I also gotta harvest some Swiss chard. Otherwise my garden is pretty boring.

I did rip out some of those accidental pole beans. They kept grabbing me, and just seem ridiculous to me. I replanted some bush beans but not sure if it's too late or not. Oh yeah my corn in the box is getting ears. The stuff in the field is a bust. Too wet, and now too many weeds.

Mine are in the ground so maybe that’s why they’re doing well lol but I might water anyways lol my tomatoes are doing amazing. We already have some ripe cherry ones. And some huge regular ones but those are still green. Squash is all twisted/knotted up and idk why lol the peppers seem to be doing well but leaves are being eaten and I noticed ants all over one plant the other day. But there’s a huge pepper on one of the plants. Still green. Supposed to turn red lol

No , had company, rain barrels are not finished.
I just glued a home made plug into the round hole. have to wait
2 hrs for it to set, 24 hrs for it to cure.
the store bought plugs didn't work.
I guess the squashes are done sprouting.
out of 44 seeds, I have 25 plants. thinking I might thin them out and putting a few into 5 gal buckets.
I am sure that Annie has plenty of recipes. She has files of recipes for everything.

In what has become our usual morning routine, the big dog barks, wakes up the little dog, who wakes me and I fly downstairs and run outside to make sure the cats aren't being eaten by coyotes.

Today, there were no coyotes, but without my glasses on yet, I couldn't make out what the kitten was chasing, something dark that kept running and getting caught, getting free and getting caught again. Dashed back into the house and put on glasses. Turned out, the kitten had found a vole. I would have rescued it, but I think she played too hard with the little rodent for it to survive long.

Both Jinx and the mama cat, Calypso, watched for a while then left baby girl alone with her treasure and yowled at me for some canned cat food. Why chase breakfast when you can order and have it served to you?

I am amazed at how early I am able to pick ripe tomatoes this year! Along with the Silvery Fir Trees, I've picked my first Cherokee Purple, and there are dozens of three types of cherry tomatoes.

While my friend who was rehoming four of the kittens was here last week, she and I picked aronia berries for her to take home. She is an avid baker and canner, while I usually freeze the berries and forget about them in the freezer.

Grasshoppers and/or earwigs are eating leaves of everything in the garden, but I do have a few peppers that are ripe and ready to pick.

we had a nice thunder storm roll through at about 9 PM last night. It rained vey hard at first and then settled down to a mild rain.
I held back watering the plants as I believed the forecast.
the squashes are looking good. should start vining soon.
Annie found a 10" saw blade in the rotted chip pile. It must have been delivered with the chips.
no ripe tomatoes here yet.
