Dreaming of Spring Gardening in the Middle of a Wisconsin winter part 2

Coming tomorrow to put in a new line from the well to the house. Hopefully that finally fixes it. I've lost hope at this point. It's been a long week here. We will see how it goes. This is a different plumber place. That first one hasn't called back.

I am enjoying the warm up. Snow is melting fast.

I hope your water woes get solved today! Isn't it so frustrating when you call a business that doesn't call back? Even if they aren't interested in doing the job, common courtesy -- which is not so common these days, it seems -- requires at least a response.

I am so happy not to have to shovel snow, thaw and replace waterers and check every hour for frozen eggs that I am doing my darndest not to get upset about all the mud warm weather's bringing. I tell myself how lucky I am as I and the dogs track into the house, and the chicken area floods and gets messy.

Yesterday, in a failed attempt to keep the chickens cleaner, I kept them in the semi-clean runs but let the waterfowl loose. The ducks and geese had a great time bathing in the driveway puddles. Until that eagle flew over the driveway at low altitude. Party over, very quickly.

How was the chili, Jim? I made creamy mushroom pasta over the weekend and finally finished off the last plate yesterday. Now, I need to make a vat or something else I can eat for the rest of the week.

Lisa, this is just a minor setback, don't let it get you down. just think how happy you will be when the water flows again,.
Barb, that eagle spotted your ducks from a mile away,. he was just checking the best way to come in and get one,.
my chili was/is delicious, even better after I added the beans that I forgot at first.
I was going to make sticky buns, but decided to make cinnamon rolls instead,. have a couple of overripe bananas, should make banana bread too
this thaw is great, I hope it doesn't have a relapse.
not so sunny today. but it is 33F ,. should thaw some more today.

They have been digging for almost 2 hours. Not very far away from the house yet. The existing line is 6-7 feet down. Not sure if the new one will be too. I don't think frost goes down 6 feet like it used to.

Barb I hear you about dogs and mud. We only have one that isn't short haired. Still takes a bit to wipe them all down.

I would like to make some chili too Jim. Maybe later this week.

Lisa, did they get the line taken care of yesterday, or are you still waterless? That would be a mighty long time to be without.

Jim, eagles nest near my friend's house, which -- thanks to the ugly flatness of northern Iowa -- is within view of my property, so they are always aware of my poultry. It was odd this time that the geese didn't sound an alarm. But, I put all my skill at running outside and yelling like a banshee at coyotes to make the eagle aware of my presence.

I have a friend coming over for dinner tonight. I was trying to decide what to fix, but it appears chili is a popular menu choice right now. So, I think that's what I'll make. And, maybe I'll turn some bananas into banana bread. Who knew this was such a culinary thread?

Lisa is probably still in the shower enjoying her therapy,
We went to the 2510 restaurant for Annie's 80th birthday, yesterday,. they give the birthday girl her age % off of the price of her meal,.
I made cinnamon rolls yesterday,. however, due to my sister and brother showing up while the dough was rising, I was pressed for time after they left to get the dough rolled out, cut and raised before we had to leave for dinner, they are not as perfect as I like,,
I will frost them anyhow. If they are not any good, the birds will enjoy them.
a few years we had an eagle show up daily to sit in the oak tree and watch the baby guineas and chicks run around,,. I am sure he gobbled more than one or two,.
when we had our first flock of chickens,200 of them, they were scattered across the field,,. they were fryer size,. suddenly they all came running back to the yard, except one,. I watched a hawk drop from way up in the sky and land on that chicken,. it was worth the chicken to see it happen.
a lot of snow has melted. today we are having a bit of freezing rain,. 36F
Lisa, frost usually goes down only to 4 ft,.
if your pipe is at 6 or 7 ft, that is where it will be again because that is where the pitless adapter is at,.

I guess I was too distraught to update yesterday. After 3 hours of digging and only getting 20 feet at 6 feet deep, they decided to go and get the heat coils and blanket and they put them down last night at around 5 pm. They said they would be back around noon or so today to hopefully finish it up. My husband is in the basement hooking all the water stuff back up so it's ready to go. My laundry is piling up.

There's a big generator that's been running all night, we will see,

They are here digging again. There's an old copper line they keep hitting. I'm guessing it was the original line and was left when it was replaced with the plastic tubing.
