Dried corn for feed ( not cracked )

Is it okay to feed them whole kernel dried corn or does it have to be cracked?
Most grown chickens(or almost grown) like whole corn better than cracked----they eat it like it was candy. Being the protein is so low on corn, I give them some as a treat instead of a pile they would probably eat then not eat the better feed.

?? Would corn be helpful in the winter since it is higher in natural sugars to help keep them warm? We used to feed our horses corn only in the winter and also sweet feed (sorghum(milo) and other grains)

A lot of people in the winter fill their chickens up on whole corn late in the evening to help keep them warmer on the cold nights. I feed my chickens some whole corn year round but as stated above---a little as a treat---not their main food.
