drinking nipples question.

I am using a 21/64 drill-bit and tapping the hole. I will seal the threads with Teflon tape. If you do not use a tap, you are mashing the male threads into the non-threaded hole. I know, I know, the manufacturer says it will hold when done this way. But, if the male fitting is threaded, my female hole will be threaded also. Just me....

Almost every nipple waterer system I've seen has puddles of water underneath the nipples. I betcha mine won't have nearly as much. I'm sure the chickens spill some but, my nipples will not leak from the threads.

Old machinists find it hard to give up old habits. But, I have another reason for wanting no leaks. This system is located on the property of an elderly friend of mine who is raising these birds with me. She is hauling water every day for these chickens to drink from the old inverted jar type waterers. She keeps everything sooo neat. I just don't want this watering system to cause the watering area to stay messy. And, I want this lady's work to be cut dramatically.

I will then start work on feeders that holds about 50 pounds of feed and, can be filled from outside of the pens.
Question ~ what do you mean tapping the hole, I know what teflon is but not sure of tapping. Photo would be good :) thanks

taps and dies are use to cut threads. taps cut threads in holes. dies cut threads on rods.

jsut curious,

i want to use nipples in pails\liter plastic cola bottles for waterers; hubby has thai fighting chickens in an old battery type chicken coop; for various reasons we cannot use the water system there (not our building, borrowed, so dont want the water bill to go up; also, being israel, we have major water issues)... mostlyt he old coops used cups or bell waterers... attached to water pipes. i want to use gravity only methods, we need them for his chickens and also muscovy ducks... since we cant always go out there to check water (and in summer that can mean death to the chickens) and the ducks are causing a mess also with the water basins. * no we cannot separate them, the building is large and ramshackle and we can only improvise with what we find to create pens and such- we cannot do any building, nor do we want to invest money in teh building (we can be 'evicted' whenever the owners decide they want it back in use again).

so: i dont seem to find those nipples here in israel in the few feed /agric stores we have around here and i want to order some, but i want to know if it will be worth it?

i also want to set up nipple waters for my near the house laying hens- at moment using the basic plastic containers filled with water method; in summer that is not enough water, and in spring, our community conisiders that method a 'mosquito hazard'....

so which nipples? the buckets we have are from resteraunts (olives and tehina buckets),
and how is the best method for putting them in? hubby is handy, so i just need pics or specs...
also, how do u fill them manually ? can the buckets sit on something rather then being hung ? it will be difficult to hang things as the coop's ceiling is not stable/strong for hanging heavy water, but only for plastic piping and lighting... we can sit the buckets on old chairs or something like a small ladder or.. any ideas or suggestions?
i need ideas that are DIY from stuff laying around , not bought (mostly a financial requirement but also ideological)--
so will ducks adapt to this method also?
does anyone ship to israel? *i wrote to one company and they dont ship to here... i knd of want them in the next weeks so prefer to have them shipped directly to me and not to family who will then ship them to me, unless there is someone in either tucson or boston /newton area that my family could get them for me and then mail...
thanx
