I have five eggs left under a broody (narrowed it down from 12) I have no idea what day of incubation they are on as we have 6 layers and I'm assuming that she is sat on various ladies eggs. I have been on holiday for two weeks (nobody touched her while I was away) and I have been back for just over a week. Surely some should have hatched by now?

Two or three eggs are completely black bar the air sac. I'm assuming this is good. The other two are only half black, the rest seems to be empty, and I'm sure the blackness moves around the egg if I rotate them. These two sound slightly hollow when I lightly tap them, is this bad or are they just probably less developed?

I'm giving her till Friday, she'll have been sat for four weeks. Is this just me being impatient? Should I just totally back off? Does anybody have any ideas or thoughts?

Thanks.

I would not have left eggs of different hatch dates under a broody, Wait and see, she'll be done after the ones closest to hatch hatch + a day or so...

If I leave broody eggs I mark them and remove all new eggs, when I went on vacation and came back I had to incubate a hidden nest, they are hatching this minute... they seem to have a three day stager in them as I had hot days and a dove couple brooding them.

Yeah, I narrowed it down from 12 to 5 as soon as I returned from holiday by candling them. I took out the less developed, some just had veins and a tiny embryo, some had no development in at all. I marked the eggs I left under her when I did that too.

It's just that two of the five I left under her seem to be very far behind the other three. Do you think they may have stopped developing? I am now starting to doubt whether they are of a close lay date. I had to remove a rotten egg when I got back too, I was worried that might have an effect.

Those dove pictures are so cute!!

Anything may have happened,

If you have an incubator leave those till the others hatch and candle again, if they are closer to hatch then you can incubate them yourself, she will be mostly done by then.
