Mabel is super lethargic today and is looking pretty droopy. She didn’t greet me nor did she run for treats like usual. She laid a really soft egg a few days ago and hasn’t laid since. She’s about 25 weeks old and is usually sweet and outgoing. What could be wrong?

Welcome to BYC. With her tail down posture, she could be suffering from an internal infection or reproductive disorder. Can you insert a clean finger into her vent 1-2 inches to feel for an egg? Do you have a vet who could see her? Antibiotics might help if she has an infection. Fish Mox amoxicillin is sometimes available in some feed stores or online. Dosage is 125-250 mg twice a day given orally.

I did check for an egg and didn’t feel anything other than tissue. It felt like a ball of tissue up front with a u shape around. I’m not sure if we have vets around here that see chickens but I’m in the ag industry and know a lot of chicken folks so I’ll check in with some tomorrow. Thank you
