Dropped an egg while candling. :*(

The wax does work, I have done it twice that has been successful and amazingly one was a shipped egg. Good luck!

i think about that every single time i candle my eggs! i'm not nervous, and i have a steady hand, but i still think of it every single time!

Me too! I've never dropped one while candling but it's a journey from coop to egg carton, walk to house (don't trip!) go into closet, candle. Reverse!

UPDATE!!! I candled the eggs last night and there was movement in all 3!!! I didn't kill the one I dropped! I am worried about one though because it looks like half of the egg is nothing but air. Yet, there is movement in there. Not sure if it will continue to develop. I'm just leaving it under her and we'll see what happens.

You know, I can understand candleing if your using an incubator, but it seems to me if the mother hen is sitting on a batch, shouldn't you just let nature take it's course? I guess the curiosity is just too strong not to look. It seems too me it's a pretty short time for eggs to hatch, why shouldn't you just leave the baby raising to the expert.

I guess that's just it....the curiosity. This is our first time with fertile eggs and it's been exciting for my kids and I. Until I found this forum, I never even knew that you could hold the eggs up to a light and see something inside. It's been a learning experience for us and the kids are amazed that they can see movement inside the eggs. I guess it's like when a woman is pregnant and we love the ultrasounds where we can see the baby inside us.

Dont feel bad. I was candling and then i tripped on something and dropped an egg. It cracked all over the floor and splattered everywhere! And the worst part was that they were already 10 days in! :'( i was crying for hours. I felt so bad!
