I went in to check the incubator and had a chick that had hatched during the night and is almost completely dry. I was taking the turner out today so as I was trying to do so 2 eggs were stuck in it. One hit the floor!! Probably 40% of the shell broke off but the membrane is intact. It is moving so still alive. Is there anything I can do to help it's chances? Should I take the hatched chick out to protect that egg?

I've put the egg in a tiny bowl with a wet paper towel loosely around it. I also add some water to the incubator. I was planning a dry hatch. I tried that on my last one and had a 75% hatch rate. It is naturally very humid here in central Arkansas!

Hmm, that egg looks dried out, and the membrane doesn't look like it still has active blood vessels in it. It won't be able to pip easily as it has nothing to push against. I may be wrong but I would put a little hole in the air sac end of the membrane and take a little look to see if there is yolk still being absorbed or if the chick is ready. If it is making chewing movements it is still sucking in the yolk. Stop if you see blood. Then put the chick back in the incubator, having put some oil on the exposed membrane. Then check again in a couple of hours. You may need to help it 'zip' out of the membrane, but slowly slowly and only if the yolk is gone.
