Droppings Board

My nest boxes are under the poop board so the hens can't sit on them and poo. then the 8 foot roost is over the 8 ft long poo board. plastic tubs on poo boards and mesh wire framed over tubs.
Saves alot of room in the coop for the chickens to roam on snowy days when they won't come outside.

Thanks for asking this question and thanks for posting the picture. I was wondering the same thing and now I understand the concept much better!!

It intercepts almost 50% of the daily poo output, keeps that poo out of the bedding, and lets you remove it daily (or however often) from the coop with next to no time or efford.

So, it's sure important to ME

You certainly do not by any stretch of the imagination *need* droppings boards. I find they make life very much more pleasant and sanitation very much quicker and simpler, though.

Don't your chickens sit on the board?

Not mine. They do use it to walk from one part of the roost to another, but that's all. See pic of the Sussex pen on my personal page, link at left under my name.
