Hi Everyone, It's been awhile since I have needed advice but here we go.
I have three Pekins ... female
Two Rouen Drakes....
I have noticed the Drakes are extremely hormonal right now and have been practicaly drowning the one Pekin in the pool. I have had to remove both of the Drakes off one girl....poor thing...
I have heard that they can actually drown a female if she is too tired to come up for air. I worry about this so I keep the Drakes seperate from the girls when I let them out to swim. I have a covered run w/ a kiddy-pool they swim in. When and how often do Drakes mate with females and is it year round ?

I hate seperating them and do let them all swim together once every few weeks. both female and drakes....I have to supervise them in case there is too much rough housing with the boys....

This makes my life very stressfull and I love my ducks but do I have to worry constantly about the girls actually getting hurt or even killed ?
Or do I just let Ducks be Ducks ??
Are Drakes constantly HORNY ???

pardon the expression....LOL
Any advice would sure help me out.....TXS

I have two pekins~ male and female. The Drake is an absolute menace. He is always- pardon the expression- horney. He constantly attacks everyone (including me!). I know what is coming the minute I see a chicken bend over to do a little pecking- there's that darn duck running at her and immediately making a choke hold. His bill is a mess of peck marks because my ladies protect each other. He never learns.
That said- when he sticks to his main woman (or other ducks if he can catch them) sometimes it seems like an eternity that he holds her underwater- but she's always fine. There are thousands of ducks on our pond and I have yet to see one die from too much loving. I had a hard time too letting ducks be ducks...

We lost a female duck to drowning, but we don't know for sure whether the drowner was the male duck or one of our female African white-fronted geese.

Multiple drakes gang breeding ducks in the water are a common cause of deaths this time of year. You have too many drakes for too few ducks. Rehoming or isolating one would be the best solution to assure safety of the ducks.

Thanks everyone but I could and would never rehome my Drakes.
I raised them from an egg and they actually treat me as if I were a Duck.
So much that I can have them on my lap at anytime. They greet me and scold me if I don't give them their Treats..........They are just being ducks.
My question was when is mating season for most Ducks and does it end at a certain period.
Do they have a certain fondness for only one Female ?
I have noticed one of the girls gets the most attention.
I will be getting more ducklings this weekend but I never know what the sex is until they grow up . Frustrating and I don't trust mail-order-fowl.

I've never heard of a duck mounting a chicken...........you must have a Kaki...mine were that way too but never w/ the chickens......If the chickens became fertile from a duck, would it be a CHUCK or a
Dicken ? LOL........
