Dry fowl Pox, maybe wet fowl pox .....silkie roo feeling rough and is smelly

Hi all, I have been dealing with dry pox and most birds recovering nicely. have a few with eye problems and one silkie roo in particular who is really sick. He has had the pox like the others, but got it in both eyes and now is not eating , drinking , is smelly and in general feeling tough. I have checked his mouth but other than a questionable stripe on the roof of his mouth no sign of pox patches. I have been giving vitamin/electrolytes in their water and dabbing neopsporin on closed eyes. he however has a rattly chest and smelly breath.....Any thoughts ?

There is no way that he could have something contagious and unrelated to the pox, right? If not, then he has a secondary infection. Some Tylan 50 should help to clear him up.

Thank-you for your reply! This bantam roo is terribly thin and does not really have any breast muscle. Can the tylan be given in the thigh or under the skin?I have never had to do this in 20 some years of bird keeping....so first time for everything.
We have had a lot of rain and bad mosquitos, but no other diseases but the pox....This fellow has pox in both eyes and now they are runny and the "good eye" has some whitish fluid . I hope this is not going to leave him blind. He is my first silkie roo and is a good little fellow about 4yrs old. He is still grooming himself but wont eat or drink and mostly tucks his head and sleeps. His poo is hard cooked egg yolk yellow with green streaks....grass maybe? Had some mucous in it this morning.
I have been syringe feeding antibiotic water since yesterday. He is breathing through his beak a lot and has some foamy stuff around his mouth. When I checked for wet pox I did not see anything but did get a little glob of goo on my finger. It has been so damp that I wonder too about fungal infection. I read about that in some of my research but their bedding is clean and dry straw.
Anyway I am off to the feed store for Tylan and popsicle sticks. Will check in when I get back. I also have a young guinea with a broken leg....when it rains it pours...

The thigh will work well. Just make sure to rotate your sites. Tylan is hard on the muscle tissue.

Sorry about the guinea. I currently have a goose with a shattered wing, so I can sympathize.

BTW.....how much Tylan do I give? He probably only weighs 1 1/2 -2 lbs,,,,,,,,,,,,,My pharmacy gave me a couple of insulin syringes marked in ml (instead of units)

Tylan 50 is 1/2 cc/bird of that size. Good luck.

Found some info...apparently .1cc/ml per pound.....by injection or orally. Have seen others say ,25 cc for bantam. I gave .2 ml orally as he is about 2 lbs.
Now for boric acid eye baths for the ones that still have eyes stuck shut and then new splint for Guinea girl..................

Update and question------------Well most of the flock are doing well and back to normal. All but two had dry pox only and I just let it run it"s course. However, the roo and one silkie hen have / had wet pox. I have searched and read everything that I could find on the subject, but nothing sounds like what I am going through. The hen had cheesy growths in her mouth and once removed with an iodine soaked Q-tip she started eating and is fine. She still had some of this hard cheesy substance on her tongue but yesterday I was able to remove those also. They just came off in a sheet.
The roo is another story. I gave Tylan orally for for days for the respiratory infection that developed, wiped and cleaned his face with Vet Rx solution several times a day and that has cleared, but we still have problems. He has one eye that was runny with small nodules on the edge of his eyelids.It is pretty well cleared up , but I am still applying an antibiotic ointment The eye still seems to bother him and he seems to be blind in that eye. The other eye is a nightmare!!! It is filled with a hard cheesy substance. The whole side of his face is swollen. I have cleaned it as best I can . I have removed probably a teaspoon of this stuff. The eye is swollen partway open. Once I get the top layer somewhat removed the underneath stuff is a little softer, more like scrambled egg. I never can remove it all and by next day is full of it again.He also has some of this visible in the cleft of the upper pallet. He has started eating and drinks a fair amount of water.( he did not eat for a week ! He was drinking a ton of water so I put "Save-a-Chick in his water.)
Has anyone ever dealt with THIS ? If so is there anything else I could or should be doing?
