Hello everyone, I appologize if this has been answered before. I am setting up my first dry hatch and I was wondering if there was a such thing as too dry. My humidity is about 18-20% because we have forced hot air heating. Is that enough humidity to do a dry hatch?

Thank you!

Jamie

I believe 25% is about as low as you want to be. AmyLynn will hopefully be able to answer, she has a lot of experience on the subject. I do think 20% is definitely too low! though.

Hi! Dry hatch is a great way to go! I only run completely dry if the bator stays above 25%. If it does not stay above 25% completely dry I wet a sponge and stick in there and it usually keeps me around 30%. (Which is the range I am most comfortable with.) Then I go up to 75% for lockdown/hatch. My chicks from this method have not (knock on wood) ever had leg problems or deformities. I am very happy with my results.

Thank you all! I am going to put a damp sponge in and see where it stabilizes. how often do you usually have to rewet the sponge?
