Dry hatch?

i dont understand . i just bought the same one and it says to keep the humidity between 60 and 80 percent and i have been struggling to get it up there. it was around 45 percent all the time. so, i did the paper towels trick i had heard about and a warm sponge right now it is up to 70 percent. am i misunderstanding something? What should the humidity be? Do i pull out one rd plug if it gets to a certain humidity? I am a newbie. i know eggs are fertile and am afraid im going to kill them...any help appreciated

sorry that posted twice. why is everyone talking about "dry hatch" no idea what that means. my incubator was at 45 percent and i was freakin out trying toget it to at least 60 percent as manual says. should itbe 45 percent or 60-80 percent and if i use the can not knowing exact age of eggs if it looks clear is it unfertile and should i throw out/i love this site it is so helpful!!! thanks for any and all help and i heard there should be an air bubble on the small end of egg is this true and if it is what is the ideal size of air bubble? thanks for any and all help

If you are incubating chicken eggs and you are not in a high elevation and you run 60-80% there's a good chance that your chicks will drown at hatch. Generally when your humidity is that high the first 17 days your eggs will not loose enough moisture and your air cells will not grow. There is no magic number for humidity. There are many factors that are going to determine what works best for you. The trick is finding what works for you. I definitely would not recommend over 45%. I would start somewhere between 30-45% and monitor air cells. The "air bubble" is the air cell and that is located at the top, (larger round end). I personally throw my clears out day 10. To figure your humidity out and to gage the air cell size I recommend reading this: http://letsraisechickens.weebly.com...anuals-understanding-and-controlling-humidity This is the method I use. It's a "dry" method, but I prefer the term low humidity incubation. I also have my vent plugs open for the entire incubation, covering them only if I need to regulate temp or humidity and then reopening them.
