I just know how many chicks die that dont need to and I am a total animal lover and if I can help someone succeed and love the experience I am here. I had to learn the hard way. Be hatching for twenty five years and had to learn as I went we didnt have puters for me to go help or I would have . Just yell if you need me I wish you all the luck in the world hatching please let me know how the hatch goes.

not a problem they had the same one on ebay for 18.00 i will tell ya how it works i am puting my very first batch in tomorrow and i cant wait best of luck with your eggs. Kim

Quick question on humidity: what should I do if the room humidity is good (45% and rising since I put a hot teakettle in there) but the bator humidity is significantly below that (below 20%)?
Should I close the vent on the top? I feel like the air is just heating up, rising, and all the moisture is evaporating out through the top.
I just added a teensy bit of water to try and raise the humidity in the bator... any suggestions??
What's the ideal humidity INSIDE the bator? The same as the room (50%), or a bit less?

:thumbsupRead the article in the very begining of this thread. I copied and pasted it into word and save it and printed it. It is a great resource.

Good luck with your hatch:jumpy

One very important thing to remember ladies and gentleman is that opening the bator during the last three days to help one chick will result in losing others still inside the egg. I am the worst in wanting them to hurry and get out of the egg. Saving the one chick that may die anyway, is not worth losing several healthy ones that did not get their chance. It is not even a good idea to open the bator to take chicks to the brooder until you absolutely have to. Chicks are fine in the bator for about 2 1/2 to 3 days so do not open that door! I hope everyone does well with their hatches. Please do keep us all posted!

chicken woman if put in at night that is day zero. I write on my calender what time i set after twenty four hours that is day one of incubation and so on.

farmer gal your humidity in the bator will be lower then the room. It just is easier to keep your humidity steady if your room is around fifty. I keep my humidity in the bator at no higher then 40 the first eighteen days. What kind of bator are you using. In lgs and hova bators I keep my humidity around no higher then 40 and dont add water till it drops to 25. In a cabinet they run a little drier so I try to keep my humidiy at no higher then 40 and dont add to till 25 but on the cabinet you will need to add water more often as they tend to dry out faster.
