I am a very new chicken owner...have had them for 2 days, and my rooster has dry poop on him. Is this what is called pasty butt? How do I remove it, I am so afraid of hurting him. Any info would be great. I am also very new to using a forum, actually this is my first time. Oh and they are also 2 day old Red Sex Linked.

Just use a warm damp rag and gently wash it off.

How old is the rooster? You can also trim back feathers, and we have had good luck putting oil on the vent area (baby oil, olive oil). It seems to help keeping it from sticking. Is the rooster able to poop otherwise? I hope we can help!

I just took my little one to the sink, waited until the water was warm, then used my fingers to soften the poo with warm water, pulled it off, and added a litle vaseline to hinie to lube things up. Check again in 12 hours.

When I started putting alittle olive oil in their food poo butt stoped and m=now they let me know if I for get to put a little on their oatmeal and raisins!!!! Its the stink eye look of "YOU FORGOT!!!!"

Wow thanks for all the advice. I tried using a damp paper towel to dampen the area and clean it, some came off, then he pooped in my hand! I don't have any vaseline in the house so I will try it in the morning, I guess I will continue to clean off as best I can.
