Dryer lint.

So about three months ago I read that you can use something soft like dryer lint in thier nesting boxes. I told my mom this at the time so ever since then we have all been saving it and now I have a garbage bag full of dryer lint. the only problem is it pulles apart really easy. Has anyone ever used this and do you think my hens will eat it.

I would say yes, they'll eat it unless you put it in some kind of sealed pillow case or something. Mine eat styrofoam, plastic,caulk,paint,nails....everything you don't want them to.

I would not do it. they would have respiratory problems. The fuzz is too small it will get into their lungs.

The only good place for lint in your compost pile. It will serve a better purpose there. It was a good idea.

Also makes great fire starter.
I have a small ziplock of it in my emergency hurricaine kit. A small golfball sized piece with crankcase oil wiped off from your trucks dipstick will start even the wettest wood shavings and chips.

You can take all that lint...and use a few old paper/cardboard egg cartons...fill the egg holes with lint, and drip melted wax over it. The wax/lint makes great fire starters. I use the stubbies of candles..or what doesnt burn in the bottom of a jar candle to make mine. I would not use it in the nests tho. I would be afraid they would eat it.

Wow! I never knew there were so many uses for dryer lint.

I'll never throw any away again! We could definitely use it in our wood stove.

You guys know everything.

The things I learn here never cease to amaze me.
Ok, I guess I now have to start a dryer lint collection. My DH will think I have lost my mind.
I will just show him this so he will know I am really not crazy.
Thanks, Good use of a readly available material.

I like to put a layer in the bottom of my(pots) plants as a filter for when some water comes out the soil stays in.

And to think we all threw this stuff away for years, who would a thunk it?

I recycle everything, hardly ever put out trash. My neighbors think I hoard it all.
