Drying Herbs w/out Drying Rack?

Is this possible? We haven't had time to build a rack, and this morning I harvested a big handful of leaves from my tulsi basil plant; it makes a nice tea. For the moment, they're spread out on a paper towel. Any other suggestions or could this work?

I dried some mint sprigs using a binder clip - clipped the stems together and clipped to a wire rack.

We hang ours from the stems bundled and tie it to a garage rafter or lay them on an old window screen

What about a solar powered dehydrater? Its basically a shadow box with vents that sits in the sun.

This is an option. No doubt we'll build one eventually!

FWIW, I left the leaves on a paper towel in the pantry, propped up by canned goods, and it seems to have worked very well. Thanks everyone!

I've been drying herbs and calendula by laying them out onto a sheet of paper towel, putting another sheet of paper towel on top, then lay this into a brown paper bag which I store upright until crispy.
Another method that can work is putting them on a plate with some paper towel on top and microwaving it for bursts of 15 seconds or so until done. I have had a lot of success with this method for drying rosemary, less so with bay leaves which made a popping sound.

Yeah, I dried some in the the microwave this year - various “Italian” herbs, sage, thyme, etc. They are already gone

Sometimes my mom just leaves her herbs to dry in a basket.

I've always just left my herbs tied together and hung in the garage or in the basement. Never had any mold or other issues with them
