Well I took the chickens out today to free range. an at first it well actually it went REALY well. The older chickens are getting close an close to my little ones an there is less stress on all my birds. But as they were eating I was looking out for any predators an I see a hawk an I have a 'command' that sounds like a roosters cluck that when I make that sound my chickens 'get down/duck for cover' (cool right!? ) an I made that sound an they go find cover but my turkey got confused an the hawk was flying right towards him fixing to kill an in the spur of the moment I made a owl call REALY loud (the owls in my area kill baby birds an the hawks are scared of them) an as I made the owl call I jumped off the hill I was on top if an the hawk turned away. That was close. But it gets worse! The hawk called three more hawks! Now instead if one in dealing with four!!!! They were dive bombing my chickens (who were under thick swamp vines so the hawks had a hard time getting to them). So now the four hawks are everywhere swooping down an I throw two of my chickens into the coop an I look back an peep has ran off an I could not find her! But I knew if peep was gone I still had to protect turkey an Jill- so I grab turkey an put him in the top part of my coop an Jill flew like 15 ft an flew right into the coop top! So now I have to go find peep- I had no idea where she was an I thought the hawk got her
.... But I spot I little white movement under a bush an I looked up under it an she was trapped in the bush! Thank goodness she was alive! I got her out of the bush but she escaped from my grasp an ran to the coop- problem she started running around the coop in circles an a hawk flew in an almost got her but I jumped out from under the bush an blocked the hawk- it almost flew into me- an I tryed to get peep but she still ran around the coop in circles an after awhile of chasing her an fights the hawks I caught her an put her in the coop! What a way to start the day. That was WAY to close
