If I buy regular duck feeding tube do I have to do that too melt the end? Why do you melt the end? I still need to learn this ugh I hope this doesn’t happen to my other duck but I’m sure over span of owning ducks I’ll need to learn this at some point. I never had a sick duck my prior two we’re attacked by fisher. I’m going to hatch another duck because I can’t leave webby alone I already feel terrible. Thanks

What size is it? The size on my tube got worn of after washing it so many times, but maybe someone else knows.

I feel nervous about putting meds and stuff down my duck's throat, too. But I just remind myself that they gleefully swallow whole slugs the size of my thumb. I take a breath, and I do it. You've got this.

No. If you buy a regular "red rubber" urinary catheter tube you do not feed to melt it.

Why do you melt the end?

Because the edge is sharp and could lacerate the esophagus or crop.

Thanks ! I wish I wasn’t hesitant these past few days tube feeding her probably could have saved her life. I never had a sick duck I didn’t know this was the thing to do.

You maybe could have saved her, but there is still the underlying cause of what was causing her anorexia to begin with. You don't need to blame yourself. I tube fed my duck 3 times daily for a month. I also took her to a great avian vet. She would have passed away right at the beginning without tube feeding, but eventually she passed away anyway. Even with veterinary care she couldn't be saved.

Don't beat yourself up, as long as she was drinking, a few days without food is unlikely to kill them.

I asked what antibiotic because it's more likely that the vet gave you an antibiotic that the bacteria was resistant to. Most e. Coli's are resistant to stuff like SMZ & Clavamox.

Oh really ? Sorry to hear. Did you know what is was ? We still don’t know for sure and are all worried about our other duck

She has been like this for a week barely eating this whole week. She was taking grapes up until the day I took her to vet three days ago.
The antibiotic says Albon oral suspension (14ml)?
