Duck after fox attack

Fingers crossed she will be okay. I will most certainly continue with the TLC. 5 ducks were killed, there are 2 left uninjured, plus my unwell one. I have a arranged to pick up 3 appleyards on Saturday. Also two silkies, as 2 out of 4 were unfortunately killed. Thank you very much - it was the first fox attack I have experienced and is very sad. None of them have eaten anything for 3 days, so hopefully some new arrivals will peak their curiosity!

That is great your getting more ducks.and Silkies too. Have you fixed where the fox got in? I know you got that one but I'm sure there are many more. There are here. I can't imagine seeing what you saw.

It takes a while to get over something like that. Hopefully you'll begin to see a turn around soon. I hope they start eating too.

Please take your duck to a veterinarian who can evaluate her condition. She probably needs some antibiotics and pain medications. Being that ducks will hide their illness to keep from becoming a victim of prey, showing weakness ensures they will be eaten. Usually by the time you noticeably see her condition is bad it's too late. I wish you lived by me if have my Vet see her ASAP. Good Luck. They are just so innocent and helpless. If nothing else get her inside in a dog crate clean her wounds twice a day make sure she eats and drinks. Keep her wounds open so they do not become abscesses. If it involves her feet , soak them in some sort of wound cleaner you can pick up at the pet store. Dilute it a lot, soak for 10 minutes then rinse them off, dry them and use fresh soak twice a day.

By the way she is not eating because she is in pain. Your vet will most likely prescribe Metacam suspension. Good luck.
