So I have ducks and chickens who live together. Recently one of our ducks went broody and sat on a bunch of chicken and duck eggs. About a week later one of my chickens caught the broody bug :p started sitting on eggs as well. Since then they have been passing the eggs back and forth seemingly at random (at times fighting over them). As adorable as this behavior is, I can't help but wonder at their chances of successfully being mothers. Anybody had any experience with this kind of group effort?

My 2 turkeys hens did this and it was a major problem for me, they ended up with eggs not being sat on and crushed eggs. Not saying the duck and chicken will do this but I know my turkeys did.

Yes, that is definitely some of my concerns. Plus since we only have 2 laying boxes (which is typically enough for our small group) the rest of the chickens are finding other places to lay; places we aren't finding :hmm. We have tried removing the eggs to hopefully snap them out of it, but they are pretty insistent they want to be Mamas. I even tried switching the eggs for hatchlings but they were not fooled!
