In our homemade bator, we have 12 BO eggs due to hatch on 5/5 and 12 Khaki Campbell duck eggs to hatch on 5/12. The guy I got them from said he always hatches his together in the same incubator so it would be fine for us to do the same - just to know that they will hatch a week apart. However, we are hand turning. I know about lockdown at the end of the incubation (this is our second hatch)...however, I obviously can't keep turning the duck eggs if the chicken eggs are in lockdown. The gentleman we got them from never said anything about this, and I didn't think to ask. So...do you just not turn the duck eggs? Please advise! Thanks

i put mine in an egg carton and didnt turn them for 3-4 day and now they are hatching

Do you mean you put the duck eggs in a carton or the chicken eggs in a carton?

I just got ahold of the guy who sold us the egg and he clarified that he "incubates" them in the same incubator but takes the chickens out three days before they are to hatch and puts them in a separate still air incubator to hatch so he can keep turning the duck eggs in the other incubator.

So...should we go out and invest in a little still air incubator, should we not turn the duck eggs during the chickens lock down, or should we continue to turn the duck eggs and forget about lockdown? Seems like everyone I talk to (other forums and online) has different opinions...but I figured the experts here would have the most experience

I hatch duck and turkey and chicken eggs together also but set the duck and turkey eggs first, then after 5 days add chicken eggs, then they can all hatch at the same time. I would have another incubater ready to fire up to switch out the chicken eggs to hatch, it will be so much better.
