I have Pekin duck eggs trying to hatch. They pip about a 1/2 cm hole in the shell then just sit there, not aggressively trying to get out. I've let some sit for a couple of days and they are making NO progress at all.
I lost one overnight ... Wasn't breathing/moving at all. I opened the shell and used some warm water to assist in getting it out and cleaning it, but it was dead. Still had about 1/3 of a teaspoon of yolk that hadn't been drawn into the abdomen.
Can anyone advise of why these guys are not making progress in coming out and how to keep them from dying in the shell after they've made a hole on their own?
I have saved three by assisting them out, after they piped and then made no progress for a couple of days, but I've also lost three.
I'd like to save the others, but am unsure of how to tell when to assist. If they come out too early, that's not good, but if they get cemented into the shell and can't get out, that's not good either.
Help?!?
