My duck has this thing where it looks like it is peeling when he gets it wet. When it's dry, it doesn't look so bad. Any ideas if this is bad or if there is something I can do for him?

I've seen this on ducks before not sure if it could be a nutrient thing or if it's just a natural thing like growing out a new bill but maybe giving her some extra nutrients like Poultry vitamins or some high quality dog kibble mine love Lamb dog kibble by Diamond it's the perfect size too gives them a little extra protein they may need when molting which this may be molting of the bill. Hopefully Amiga or lacrystol will be on later to add what they think. sure is a pretty .

I've read a little flaking tends to be normal but if it seems excessive than it can be a bacterial/fungal infection in the outer layer of the beak. Makuna Honey cream is an option (honey has natural antibiotic/fungal properties) or Neosporin cream. You might be able to get the honey cream at the pharmacy. An ointment wouldn't be a necessarily good option because it can get the greasy texture on the feathers when preening. Do once daily, rubbing it in the beak until the peeling clears up. This may or may not be what it is but if it is these options might help clear it up.
