Okay, we just set up a new pen for ducks (it's a dog run and doesn't have a coop since were in Fl and it doesn't get to cold here) what we're doing is using a heavy duty tarp to block off most of the top and the sides of most of it and laying chicken wire across the rest of the top.

Now we are trying to figure out what to put on the bottom over the horse fencing we laid down to keep predators out. What we're thinking of doing is laying down pea rock over the parts not blocked in by the tarp and laying down something like shavings over the rest. Does that sound like a good way? any suggestions on what other kinds of bedding to use?

Sounds good to me. I have a pea gravel run and they they have wood shavings in their night pen. I like that I can take the hose to the pea gravel and the poo just melts away. The plants nearby do too

I've been putting straw on the ground over the gravel. When it gets too poopy, I sprinkle some more straw on (every couple days) and when it gets too thick, and I have time, I pitchfork it into the compost.. Yes, the straw gets soft and mucky and the ducks seem to like it that way!!
