I think your doing great just keep them side by side for now so they can get to know each other again, then once the stitches come out or she is fully healed then reintroduce altogether. They will probably be some shoving and pushing but since they have been side by side it shouldn't take long to get things back to normal. My Muscovy girls will take a wild hair at least 1X a week and push one of their sisters around a bit then next time it's another 2 or same ones just the opposite on whos the bully. Silly girls.

Splitting the flock worked pretty well--Amelia and her best bud Stella, as well as yet-to-be-named-duckling hen, interacted well together all day on their side of the fence. There were some dust-ups through the fence, but Stella usually stepped in. Still, we felt we had to be watchful all day. Today we're starting with the flock separated, and then we're going to try to mix them again and see how it goes. Stay tuned...

Amelia is feeling much better! Once she's completely off the Metacam, we'll re-introduce her to her buddies outside, but for now, she's still living inside with us.

I know this is an old thread but I'm so happy she survived that ugly attack. She is really a trooper and it feels good to know she is doing fine now, loved her video! I have truly turned into a duck and goose lover!!!

Hi Miss Lydia!!! Yes they are! Little Amelia's story had me in tears, I am so happy she is ok now, I could just hold her for days!

I know and they are so good to their birds it's very heart warming.

You know we all have our own stories to tell also you rescuing and me too just different circumstances gotta love these birds.

Thanks for commenting! She is an incredible bird. After the incident and her recovery in my wife's studio, it took a while to reintegrate her, but thanks to her best buddy and sister Stella, she reintegrated just fine--although she ended up at the bottom of the pecking order as a result. She has now moved back up a bit and has taken her place as an excellent flock member with a bit of an independent streak. She also really likes hanging out with us, but she tries not to let on when everyone else is about. I know I'm totally anthropomorphizing here, but, hey, it's Christmas! Oh...and her little snaggle bill is adorable (this picture is from 7 December)!
