I got three ducklings from Tractor Supply last June. They grew up free-ranging with chickens and turkeys. Two wound up being male and one female. About a month ago, my dog killed the two males and lightly injured the female. Since then, the female has acted very depressed and stopped bathing.

This morning, she was bleeding lightly from her nostrils and one eye. I segregated her from the other birds and gave her water. We live in an arid, high-altitude location, but I know it might also be viral. My assumption is that, whatever it is, her immune system is so low due to depression right now that she’s succumbing to normal factors. All of my other birds seem healthy.

I’d like to know whether I should keep her segregated until this is over. Also, is there anything I should be doing for her until I can get her into a vet. We don’t have poultry vets nearby, but if she makes it through the weekend I’ll see about driving her to one. I just want her to be as comfortable as she can be in the meantime,

I would bring her inside and put her in a lukewarm water in my bathtub (This is the first thing I do whenever there is anything wrong with one of my ducks) then yes I would keep her separate from the other birds in case its viral and contageous. And I would give her some poultry vitamins in her drinking water. (ducks water dish/bucket needs to be deep enough for them to dunk their head in) and Id probably give her some cooked green peas to eat too lol . And of course pray. I hope she feels better <3

@Miss Lydia
Have you thought about getting her another duck friend
This would help with depression
Turkeys and chickens will not go swim with her
Ducks love to follow the leader abd need another duck friend
Her injuries could be from the other birds if she is going through mate hormones she maybe trying to chase or lay down for them
Miss Lydia has had a duck with injuries from another bird attack
She can hopefully give you advice on cleaning it
