Duck Bowl/Bucket for Winter - Will they drown?

gryeyes - Oh, I hadn't tried a separator bar. That actually would probably do a lot. Thanks for the tip! I have the waterer on top of a wire-covered plastic storage tub (wide and low), which really helps in the summer (and I'm sure in the winter, too), but it's so cold that the water has been freezing before it drips off the wire and now I have a big ice dam on top of the wire that's mixed with wood chips.

And then of course there's the 40-lb ice cube inside the tub, too. Oh, ducks - you have to love them, but they sure are messier than the chickens!

I'm really thankful that the ducks will go out in the snow, though, so then they don't have to be in their house all the time (I tried to convince some of my chickens the frozen white stuff wouldn't kill them, but they disagreed).

Well, speaking of ducks I'd better get out of the house and go let them out for the day so they can run around. I'm sure they're wondering what's taking me so long.

I use the heated buckets inside the duck house hooked to the wall so they can't knock it over - They sit on top of black plastic water heater pans from Home depot - I put three red bricks covered with plastic mesh inside the pans - keeps the bedding dry.

Black rubber mortar tubs outside - holds about 20 gals each - everyone seems happy.

Is this a serious post or a good bit of humor for this short holiday work week?
All kidding aside, I had a pekin get stuck upside down in her water bucket head first, I waited a bit thinking she would get herself out...she couldn't. Had I not been standing there she would have drown. (And shes a pretty athletic pekin.)
