This forum was helpful to us when our duck was sick last month so I wanted to make this post in case it could help someone in the future who is searching for help like I was. Our duck started bobbing it's tail as if she was egg bound last month. We let her soak in warm epsom salt baths but her tail kept bobbing. There was no way to tell if she was laying or not because we have multiple ducks and no where we could really keep her isolated. Soon we noticed that she was having breathing problems, she was breathing heavy and was no longer quacking. Everything else was normal with her. She was still eating, drinking, flirting with our drake, swimming, bathing like normal but her chest was inflating and deflating very drastically and her tail was still bobbing. We grabbed some Vet RX from Tractor Supply to try for a few days but it didn't seem to be helping. We took her to the vet and without x-rays they determined that they thought she had a lung infection. They started her on a two week course of Sulfa 200mg/Trimeth 40 mg twice a day and Meloxidyl 10ml once a day orally. Within the first couple of days her quack was back although not as loud as normal. The breathing has been slow progress but progress none the less and now 3 weeks later she appears almost back to normal. During that time she did lose some weight and appeared to lose some feathers as well but is on the mend. From everything I read, I really thought she probably wouldn't make it so I am thankful to have found a solution that worked for her. I hope this gives hope to anyone who is in a similar situation with their duck.
