Duck Breed Focus - Pekin

If your are still able to forage for their extra food then they may be okay with out feed during the day. I have just always left feed out during daylight because it takes alot to make an egg and I just like to know my egg layers are able to eat anytime they want too. You don't have mink and weasel in Texas?? wow how'd that happen lol
Guess we are just lucky not to have weasels and mink! We just have our plain old opossums! But they are worrisome! I am concerned that if they get in there they will get the ladies. Although when we have found the opossums in with the ducks the ducks aren't particularly concerned about it. At least not until we go to getting the opossum out or we have to kill it. Which I HATE killing anything!

Thanks again Miss Lydia!

We have just about everything in the predator list. One year we had a young opossum come around during the day in dead of winter and eat out of the feeders all the flock would just hang around and watch no one was alarmed. Now during egg laying and baby season I would encourage the Opossum to move on. I wouldn't trust them around then.We have some resident red tail hawks I'd like to send you if interested? lol

Miss Lydia,
Can you tell me the breed of duck that is all black. I have seen it in other people's posts but can't figure out what the breed is.
Thanks!

They are so cute, what are their names.? sorry if you said my memory isn't so good anymore.
Do they look skinny? I have never had ducks before and not sure I would know a fat one from skinny one. They eat a lot!

By the way, I finally got one to eat one pea out of my hand. This is exciting as they have refused to let me touch them. Maybe...just maybe one day I will be able to handle them without them going crazy! Time will tell!
