My sister and her adult daughter saw some ducks the other day and I cannot figure out what they might be. Muscovies possibly, but I don't know. They both described them as huge, with iridescent green feathers. I asked about the caruncles, thinking at least some must be drakes, but they said there were none. Are there any other duck breeds that are really large, except Pekins. These ducks were not white. I then thought geese, but they both said they were not geese, the necks were shorter like ducks.
I feel silly asking this, since I have had ducks for years, but I don't honestly know much about different breeds. And I cannot figure out what they saw. There were some mallards there they said and these ducks were much larger than the mallards.
I was just curious and am sure I will do the forehead slap when I get the answer.

Have you seen a cayuga? They are a big heavy type duck with green plumage like that. I don't know otherwise, but it's a thought

I have not seen a Cayuga, will look one up and send the link to my niece to see if that is what she saw. Thanks.

They may well have been Cayugas but Cayugas are a medium duck not a heavy duck. They may also have been Muscovy crosses many of which don't show much caruncling.
