I have had ducks for a couple of years now but am wondering if something could be wrong with one of my female calls or if it's just that she is "in season"?
I noticed a couple of days ago that what I think might be called the cloaca is protruding and seems to stay out, though I admit I don't constantly look. She acts perfectly healthy and right now is with 3 females and 1 male duck who I have seen mate her but doesn't overmate. I think I saw something like this last year with one of my female calls, but as I remember it didn't stay protruding.

Here is a pic:

Should I be concerned?

They don't have 'seasons' like dogs and cats.

That is not normal.

It may be she has in injury from egg laying or mating.

I would clean her up to stop flies being attracted to the blood.

Keep an eye on her, and if you see more blood after a day or 2 you should take her to the vet.

Just as an update, I soaked her in some warm Epsom salt water, dried her, & then put a little raw honey on her protrusion and gently pushed it back in. She didn't even complain very much and so far it hasn't come back out. I saw no signs of infection and will keep her away from any males. She is isolated with the mommy duck that hatcher her last year so both are happy with being spoiled. I'm hoping it doesn't pop back out.

Good for you, yes you want to make sure to keep it moist if it was to come back out but hopefully it won't. and keeping her separated from the drake for a while is a very good idea.
