I had a blue swed sit on eggs for 26 days and then stop sitting. It has been 35 days now and still nothing. I removed the eggs to day and opened 2 both were fully formed but dead. Why does this happen and when will she start laying again?

That's so sad when so close. It's really hard to know what is going on in the mind of a broody duck, they go broody seems like they are very dedicated then they walk away, sometimes they go through the whole 28 days then kill or try to kill their ducklings, or after hatch leave them, I don't have any answers for ya. But I have some questions. 1 was she sitting in a safe quiet place?2. were they other ducks/chickens around her that may have been harassing her? 3. Drakes did you notice them messing with her, I've not seen my drakes do this with broody's but I have caught them following a duck inside where she was going to lay and egg and try to mate with her. harassment. 4. How old is she? is she a first time brooder. She should start to lay again in the next couple weeks. And may want to try it again, are you prepared? Very sorry for your loss.
