Duck down :(. What would do this?

So sad to report that something got one of our khaki Campbells at the pond today. We fed them this morning and they were all fine. Went down again around noon and there were only three and they looked sad and scared if that's possible.

Went down again this evening and my boys got in the kayaks and checked out the other side of the pond where they liked to hang out in the bulrushes. They found our girl there. Headless.

What in the world would kill a duck and only take it's head??

I'm more worried for the others now.

I am so sorry. It's always hard to lose our feathered friends, but so much harder when something like that happens.

I'm more worried the others now.

Mink will only eat the head a lot of times. If they get into your coup they can clean it out in one night. They will kill without eating them same as a weasel.

I'm so sorry this happened to you.
Raccoons are known to take the heads off of their prey, so it could have been one of them.

Yes, it happen last week with us. My husband heard the Raccoon voice and next day we lost 4 of our .

We have caught the predator yesterday but... 2 night before he had destroy my mandarin and wood duck aviary.. next morning it was as a crime seen.. 5 pairs of my mandarin breeder & 1 pairs + 1 female of silver wood ducks were murder.. they all were sitting on their eggs.. Now, I don't know what I can do with the sad male silver wood duck left. (.. Yesterday I was watching one of my mandarin male was flying from one to another nesting box and look inside to see if anybody in there. It was heart breaking.. I can't say how up set my family are.. I want make a coon burger out of him but my hubby said he wouldn't eat it.. and i'm not either.

So sorry for your losses, try looking on here in the ornamental thread or buy sell trade to see if you can find a mate for your lone drake as bad as your feeling he is even feeling worse. and please while your at it fortify your aviary because predators never give up you catch and kill one another tasks it's place. you don'tr want more heart ache.
