Does anyone else ever wonder about this? A baby eagle is an eaglet, a baby owl is an owlet, and yet we don't call them "ducklets" or "chicklets". A gosling, but not a pealing or quailing. Or quailet. Or pealet. Or goslet!

Personally, I think it'd be adorable if we just lumped all baby birds into one of those two categories, either 'lings or 'lets! Crowling! Heronling! Hawklet! ! SPARROWLET!

How about falcon chicks? They are called eyas!

Your post made me curious and I looked up a few others. Never knew that crane chicks were called colts!

Crazy, iddn't it? And baby sandpipers are peeps! I still think "cranelet" and "piperlet" are cuter, though.
