hi everbody just wondering does anybody know how to tell if a duck egg is dead or alive? Thanks to everyone!

Candling is when you look at an egg with a really bright light like a flashlight etc so you can see what is happening in the egg... There are some good articles in the Learning Center on candling eggs and making or what to use for a candler etc https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/hatching-eggs-and-raising-chicks ... here is a link to Metzer Farms website, they have pictures of incubated duck eggs for days 1 to 25 so you know about what you should be seeing whatever day yours are on http://www.metzerfarms.com/Candling.cfm

Hope you have a successful hatch

That I can't say since I don't use a bator and don't usually take the eggs out from under my ducks very often. I guess there could be some smell as long as it doesn't smell like it's rotting. I'd keep an eye on it for sure.

Ok its not a eotting smell its more like a natural nature smell but thank you anyway!
