Duck Egg Hatching Live Stream and Tracking!

We had a successful 6!

The 3 that didn't make I'm not sure exactly why. There air sacs were very small (like week 1 or 2 small). The ducks were fully developed... they did NOT internal pip (break into the air sac). Perhaps they didn't have enough room in the air sac to break stretch it enough to break it.

obviously they were kept in the same humidity and temps as the other happy 6...

(all these eggs were fished out of the pond, laid in the water. some had been in the water for several days before we noticed the laying had started... but we have no idea which ones).

So we were obviously also wrong on our theory as to breed. I thought they'd be mallards. But they are either khaki or a mix. Here's the rundown on that theory:

In the pond are: 1 female mallard, 1 male mallard, 2 female khakis, 1 male khaki.

The female mallard was seen mating with the male mallard several times. She also got taken by the khaki and another wild duck or two....

We had gathered 16 eggs from the water when we started incubation. 9 of those eggs took and were viable. The other 7 had no development, likely unfertilized.

The 7 that did NOT develop: There were a distinctly different shade of white (more creamy/pink) than the 9 eggs (more pure white) that did.

As of now, the mallard isn't hanging out at the pond any more. The eggs we are getting now are the exact same color as the 7 eggs from the incubator that did NOT develop. So, we theorized that that color egg was from the khakis, and we've not seen them mate at all. So we thought our whiter eggs must be from our mallard and her buddy.

Also, they started hatching on day 25 (1 day early for a mallard, but, 3 days early for a khaki), so we REALLY thought we had mallards then.

So they are either khakis, or possibly a mix.

Open to any thoughts. Here's pics to show their coloring.

One of these is the daddy. Baby photos from last year. I think its the one in the front, but...

Anyway, the new babies look a LOT like this, but probably a shade yellower.

Any chance the new babies are mallard khaki cross? Or are they just khakis? The egg color thing is really what throws me off.

These look just like the khakis I hatched a week ago. But they aren't 100% Khaki correct?

So we originally thought they were mallards -- obviously not.
Then I thought maybe they could be a mix. Compared photos after a few days of the khaki babies we got last summer with these babies.

Now -- pretty certain they are 100% khaki...

Our confusion was based on egg color. We had 16 eggs on day 1 of incubation. The 9 that were fertile and grew were a more whiter shade of white. The non-fertile eggs, and the ones laid after the original 16 (that we've been eating or tossing) -- they were all a slightly creamy/pinker color. So we thought hey they are mallards vs khakis (egg color).

So i guess, for whatever reason -- the eggs that were fertile were just a slightly different color shade. Thats the best I've got. 🤣
