Hi all,
Planning to put a batch in to ideally hatch second week of July ish . However, I will be away for the tuesday-thursday (4-6) the week before so just wondering what I should do for the lockdown stage? I usually lock it down on day 23-24 as in the last 2-3 years, the first ducklings tend to be fully out by day 27.

Should I put them in so that I can lock them down on the Tuesday and they should start to hatch once I'm back, or should I time it so that they hatch a week later and if so, will they be okay for the 3 days without turning?

My intuition is to lock them down the tuesday morning but I figured no harm to check for others' opinions.

Thanks :)

I’m not sure I totally understand which days you’ll be gone but if your concern is that they could potentially hatch early while your gone you could take them off the turners but wait to bump humidity until you get back.

Hi! Thanks for replying!
In terms of the incubation days, there’s two options I have
a) be gone from days 23-25 and lock them down on day 23
b) be gone days 18-20 and lock them down after I’m back (not sure if someone will be around to turn the eggs during those days 18-20)

Not too worried about them hatching early because in either situations I’d be back before day 26

i just wouldnt try to start eggs if i was going to be gone. your planning right? id plan to do it later lol .. imo both incubating and brooding takes attention at least a couple of times a day to check on things ..

Go with being gone day 23-25
