I'm a 1st time duck owner, but have been raising chickens for quite a while now. I have 2 ducks, a female Khaki Campbell and a male Muscovy. They share a very large enclosure (with a very large chicken coop in the back) with my 8 chickens. They all live in perfect harmony with each other, aside from my one-track-mind male muscovy who is CONSTANTLY trying to mate with my KC, along with also trying to mate with a couple of my chickens as well. For the longest time, my two ducks slept outside on the ground while my chickens went to the coop to roost for the night. About a month ago, my muscovy started roosting with the chickens at night, and then my khaki campbell quickly followed suit, and now she roosts with the chickens every night as well. My khaki campbell has reached egg laying maturity around a month ago, so I've been excited and eagerly awaiting my first duck egg, but I still haven't seen any eggs on the ground. This morning, I looked in one of the chicken's nesting boxes in the coop, and found an egg that looked slightly different. My chickens are known to lay a weird egg every now and then, so I wasn't sure if it was a chicken egg or my khaki campbell's first egg. I'm inexperienced with ducks so I figured I'd see if anyone could see if this could be. This picture shows a green tinted egg from my Americauna on the right, a white egg from my Leghorn in the middle, and the mystery egg on the left. The egg isn't quite white like the middle one...kind of a dull off-white. Thanks in advance for any information. Side question: is it common for ducks to roost up high with chickens and lay eggs in the coop's nesting boxes, or do my ducks have an identity crisis? LOL

No, not all have big eggs, some have different sized eggs, I would say try all of them and see if one as a different flavor? I've never had any of my ducks lay YET but I have owned them many times. @Miss Lydia owns ducks i'm sure she may be able to help.
Duck egg size depends on the duck. These are the range of sizes I get. Sometimes I get a huge double yolker too
Ok, thanks for clearing that up for me :)

For the people who raise chickens as ducks together, is it normal for ducks to lay in the coop’s nesting boxes?
Yes, I have a mallard with my chickens and guineas and she acts a lot like them, besides her loving water.. My duck even roosts with the chickens so yes, I believe it is normal.

As I see it ducks/ducklings have the ability to imprint. Not only that but the are extremely flock oriented so I would say it stands to reason they would act like what ever birds they are around (to best their ability).

So something as simple as roosting and using a nesting box like the others I’d say yes.

My Muscovy will lay in the chicken nest boxes because they can get up to them. My gander thought for 5 years he was a Muscovy because he was hatched by one and lived with them for 5 yrs till I brought him home a female goose. Then it took 3 months for him to accept her and I had to separate him from the Muscovy ducks. Breeding season cinched the love affair and they have now been happily 7 yrs.
