Most of the time my duck eggs are covered with mud but sometimes they lay in with the chicken eggs and then they are clean. Lately they have been laying their eggs in the hay just outside the run and none of the chickens are laying there right now so even though some of them are small, I know they are duck eggs. Most of my chickens lay brown, blue/green or a pinkish color of eggs but sometimes I will find a large white one in the nest when I know the ducks haven't been near it.
I don't know what kind of ducks I have. I have 2 white hens, one that looks like a beige/white Indian Runner and a black drake. None of them had the breeds listed on the containers they were in at the feed store where I bought them. My Cornish Cross hens and ducks came from a feed store with no breeder to tell me what they were.
When I bought the other chicks the guy told me what they were but I didn't write it down and now I'm sorry I didn't. The ones I got from this guy are purebreds. He brings chicks to a local feed store every other Saturday. Some of them are Ameracauna and I think one is a Buff Orpington and I don't know the name of the breed with the feathers on their feet. I just love them. Sylvia
Ok, I was looking at pictures of Ameraucaunas and I think my red rooster is one. So some of the eggs I have should breed true when he breeds to my Ameraucauna hens. Sylvia
