This is my first time incubating duck eggs, they were due to hatch on the 22 there started at 1600hrs on the 21, little bits of shell was broken, this morning the 23rd 1 duckling has hatched and the others still just a small hole and a bit of movement. Should i help them out yet? As its nearly 48hrs since first signs of hatching.
Many thanks

In my experience it is risky to help them out but I have helped many after the 48 hour period. Ive found that if they start pipping then are not out after that period they start dryng inside and sticking to the shell making it hard for them to move and make there way out. Also some I waiting too long to help ended up with feet problems which I helped correct after. This is just what I have been doing but must be carefull maybe just help make the whole a little bigger and see how they react. Most people prefer and say to leave them alone. Again this is risky but I made my own 48 hour rule which works for me.
