Hi,
A mother mascocy duck had a nest in my backyard but something ate her so I have been taking care of the eggs. I have read so many articles and have been trying to do everything right. I have a make shift incubator with a temperature around 99 with humidity. There’s a bad smell and I don’t know if it is all or some of them. One cracked and had a puss like liquid come out of it, I think it’s dead but I want to be sure. Then there is four others. The picture with the more yellow flash light is of the cracked one. Is it dead? Are the four others looking okay? The second bluish light is from one of the other four. Any advice would help, thank you.

How long about had the mom been sitting in them? Only 4? The second pic looks like a dead one. Not sure on the first one. Can you get more candling pics of all of them? If there are any veins or movement they're alive. Good job taking these babies in, and welcome to BYC!

Thank you for responding!! The one egg turned out to be dead, sadly. I still have the four others. I believe the mother had been sitting on them 1 1/2-2 weeks. Here are the candling pics.would it be right to assume the one with no color is dead?

Picture one here looks like it has veins. The others it’s hard to tell but they don’t look like they have veins.

If you notice any egg cracks or has a rotten smell that egg is a bad egg. The bacteria can cause cracks, leaking, and worse of all explosions.

I had to remove the dark one with no orange color because it started oozing. Should I remove the two others without veins ?

just an update, all the eggs died except one ): but I think it is doing well, I see a lot of movement. I’ve been checking it every night. I don’t have a lot knowledge on it so when I candle I can’t really tell what I’m looking at, but it looks like the pictures I’ve seen. These pics were the best I could by myself, sorry for the quality. :)
