I have 14 cayuga eggs in the incubator that've been in there for eight days. I candled them and I don't see anything. One's cracked, so it'll be tossed, but it looks the same as the others (besides the crack). I don't remember when I candled my mixed breed eggs. I'll obviously leave them in there for awhile yet to be sure, but shouldn't I see at least light veining in them by now? I just had to toss a dozen australorp eggs that never developed, please tell me that my cayugas aren't garbage too.

You should see veining and a small embryo by now, but Cayuga eggs are dark, so it may take longer to see anything.

Not all cayuga eggs are dark, it depends on the time of season and the quality of the birds. If they are white eggs, though, you should be able to see something. I can see tiny embryos and veins in mine as early as 3 days.

I just bought 11 Cayuga eggs from a BYC'r but I actually bought them off of Ebay. Not one of the eggs were fertile. She was kind and sent me 1/2 my money back that I paid for them. I was really disappointed because I wanted to add Cayugas to my flock. I have 2 now, one is 8 years old and one is 1 years old but they're both females.

Today is Day 8 and still no veining. I told her that I would give them a few more days and if I even got one that veined, I would return the money she refunded me but it's not looking good at all.

She went and cracked 2 of her eggs while we were talking and she said they were both fertile, had the bullseye. None of these eggs had broken air cells either so they didn't have a rough postal ride either. She's confused and so am I.

Sorry that your eggs don't seem to be fertile. Can you contact the seller??

It is possible that Post Office xrayed them and its no ones fault but the post office (especially if the box is marked do not xray)-Im pretty sure this happened to me with 40.00 of Serama eggs I got from a 100% ebayer that I got eggs and almost a perfect hatch last year-there wasnt one live egg out of 15 and I was sad, at least I am running about 80% on all my other eggs so I know it wasnt me. Some eggs its hard to see but most of the time I always see something by day 7.

Well I've come to the conclusion that xraying at the Post Office is what caused the infertility. I cracked open the eggs and found 6 distinct bullseyes yet none of them had begun to develop after 8 days.

The seller has been very upfront and kind and she's just as baffled as I am. Because there was obvious fertility at some point, the xraying is the only thing that makes sense.
