duck eggs were found. Not sure how old. We’re veiny and looking good. Now there are two big blank spaces when canceling and they are getting these dark colours. Likely dead?
Can you take them into a dark room and take a picture while candling? Blobs can be bacteria growth but because we don't know what you're actually seeing it could just as easily be the embryo growing.
Here is the best I can get. There is still some veining but just not sure. Threw 1 out yesterday because it smelled terrible!!!! None of these have an odour. Just not sure what natural progression is. Have not seen any movement. Just very dark.
Hmm, you're correct, they don't look good to me either. The cloudiness looks like bacteria to me. There's usually more veining then that but I'm only on day 7 with my duck eggs and their development so far looks very different from my chicken eggs. Since you don't smell anything yet you could wait a few days and check to see if there is any change before giving up on them but be careful to keep checking for smell because they can explode...
Thank you. Doing our best to save them. Hoping it’s not what we’re thinking. Will keep checking smell and give them a little longer. They are at the very least 8 days. That’s how long we have had them and they were incubating before that.
Here is a recent photo I took candling a good duck egg. The dark is where the embryo is developing and the lightest part is where the air sack is. I know candling photos are hard to take, so think about the way yours looks in real life. In my egg as I move it around in the light it is mostly oranges and reds in color and the veins are all red. Also by this stage if I watch in the egg while I move them slowly or if I tap the shell with my fingernail I can see movement inside.
Eggs pictured in 1,3,5, and 6 do look like they are dead or are in the process of doing so. Your last egg pictured certainly looks much farther along than 8 days. It also, if it is could be good because it could mean there is a duckling filling up most of that egg. I would wait several days more see if you witness any changes in the eggs or their air cells.
