Hi, I am brand new to the site. We have two ducks, Peck and Fluff. We got them last easter for the kids. They have been a blast. We are learning as we go. The female layed her first two eggs. I read other posts in this site regarding duck eggs and my question is this. Are the eggs safe to eat if they are covered in poop? I washed them off with warm water covered them and put them in the fridge. Will ducks lay in a nesting box? Would love any info regarding these questions. Also do duck and chickens get along? We are thinking of adding to the flock. Thanks so much and look forward to learning much here at BackYardChickens!

Just rinse them off and they will be fine. As for laying in the nesting box....depends. Some ducks refuse. Some eventually catch on. Some of mine just started laying and they lay wherever
