Duck eye infection?

Hello,

My girl Faye has an eye problem. We’ve been treating it and it seems to have been improving but looks very strange. Has anyone ever seen this?
Not sure what happened- one morning just over a week ago when we let her out of the pen I noticed her eye was closed. We used Vetericyn eye wash the first couple of days and observed some sticky white discharge. I picked up some Terramycin ointment and we have been using that and the eye wash both, applying the Terramycin 3 times per day.
At first the eye remained closed, then she began opening it more and acting more like her normal self. She is keeping it open now and active, keeping up with the other girls and foraging. But there is still a white film over the eye. A couple of days ago part of the film wiped away and I thought sure she was on the mend. But it hasn’t changed much the past couple of days and I’ve been very worried about her. Just wondering if anyone has observed this before. Hoping we are on the right track and that it will continue to clear up.
Because we have felt it has been improving and responding to the wash and ointment we haven’t had it looked at yet. The vet I had hoped to take her to is scheduling over a week out. We just have 3 ducks, no drakes.

Sure looks like some type of infection. Maybe she stuck something in there. Is she acting okay now other than the eye? Eating well? Looks like this could probably need a vet?

Hi Miss Lydia,

Yes she is acting normally- eating well, laying eggs and foraging with the other girls. I changed all the bedding in her pen and am making sure she has clean water to dunk her head in.

Hi, there! :frow

Just checking in to see how your bird is doing. Updates to these type of threads are quite useful for people in the future experiencing the same problem.

Hi there, thanks for the reminder, Isaac. Faye’s eye has healed, but it is still cloudy. I think her injury resulted in cataracts in that eye, unfortunately. Not sure if we had done things differently if that would have made any difference. She seems to be able to see out of that eye but not very well. The vet said she can get by with sight in just one eye, and she is as happy and active as ever. So I am glad that she’s okay but sorry she didn’t make a full recovery.
