GRAPHIC PICS!

Here is my duck Andy 3 days ago after somehow injuring his eye:His pupil was dilated and he appeared to not be able to see out of the injured eye. However this may have been due to the excess moisture, gunk, and blood that was covering the wound. We cleaned as much of it as we could keeping in mind that we didn’t want to damage the eye further in case he could still see. We sprayed the outer area with poultry safe wound spray but obviously avoided the eye. His pupil looks intact, so I’m wondering if the eye is still salvageable.
This is how he looks today:

looks a bit worse but it’s mostly just the protective gunk as his eye heals. We figured it would be better to leave it this way for now since the gunk is sealing his eye shut from any infections. The nosebleed was not related to the eye, and actually was caused by a ridiculously long piece of straw that he had somehow shoved up his nose. We removed it and he’s doing fine in that department. (After a few times blowing bubbles in his water pan, the nostrils were nice and clean) I am worried about the eye though and I don’t want him getting an infection. He’s eating, pooping, drinking, and quacking as normal for the time being. Do I mess with the gunk and try to clear It up, or do I leave it and let the likely scratched eyeball heal? Thanks for any tips!

Sorry, I'm not sure...but if you can....I would definitely take him to a vet. It does not look super good in the pictures. I would probably definitely clear the gunk away. The gunk itself can be infection, and if its not it could seal any possible infection in. I would also find a spray that can be used in the eyes.

You should for sure check this website out. How did he get injured? I'll keep him in my prayers! 🙏:hugsHopefully he heals quickly.
He likes to fly into our goat’s pen which isn’t a smart idea on his part. The goats don’t mind him, but since they’re rowdy I’m sure he got in the middle of it somehow. I’ll definitely make some saline solution for the eye. It’s nighttime now but in the morning I can check on him again.

Have you cleaned it? A warm rag to wipe all the gross stuff off will work great.

I’ll have to try that. He isn’t a fan of the touching since he can’t see what’s going on. He’s too much of a sweetheart to hurt us though, so he’ll just lightly nibble on our fingers while we try to wipe it. It’s pretty thick gunk and I’m afraid of hurting him but I suppose if we do it slowly and gently it should be fine. We have been wiping his eye but cold water wasn’t doing the trick. It’s night right now, but in the morning perhaps I can make some saline? I heard contact saline can’t be used on poultry, how would I make some that’s safe?
