6 weeks ago my silkie rooster got badly injured by his son rooster who was taking over as alpha. We found him cowering under the coop plucked and scabby. We brought him in the garage to heal. Got rid of the other roo and put him back with his flock a week later as he looked healthy and happy (although scabby) again. He’s been doing great, growing back his fluff for a month now. He lost his scab with a raw spot you’d expect if the scab tore off early. But, just 2 days ago saw his healing wound and it just looks odd. It was really dusty and looked like it may not be healing properly. I isolated him again, cleaned it with vetericyn and it looks a tad better. Roo looks and acts healthy. Just looking for advice. I think my next step is triple antibiotic ointment with a hydrocolloid spot bandage. Any tips?

Poor fella. I would use the neosporin ointment twice a day. Read up on the hydrocolloid dressing. I’m not sure that you use both together because the hydrocolloid is used in a clean wound. It also has an adhesive that may pull off skin. Most times I don’t recommend a dressing, and his wound does not look healed enough to be with other chickens. It looks like his skull was punctured. It may take awhile for the area to fill in with skin. I hope that he makes it.
