Hello duck friends!
I'm always grateful to people who have shared their experiences so that I can learn from them, and so wanted to share about our duck's recent eye injury, luckily with a happy ending.
When I went out Saturday morning to feed, I noticed our duck Unicorn had a white, foamy, horrible looking eye. My first thought (after panic) was a mating injury but she had been separate from the drake for about 24 hours beforehand. I think what may have happened is that she tried to put her head through the fence, got stuck, and pulled back, poor baby. This is how it first looked:

And after I flushed it with some saline:

It looked awful, cloudy eye and seemed sunken. Honestly, if there was any chance we could have gotten her to the vet I would have but finding ducky vet care on a weekend is pretty impossible - even our vet school is routinely diverting emergencies these days. We started flushing with saline and using Teramycin 3-4 times a day, and gave her a dose of meloxicam the first day that I think helped to bring the swelling down. Here she is today (5 days later):

I'm so grateful that she is healing and thankful for this community - I had no idea Teramycin was a thing you could buy until I hopped onto BYC in a panic Saturday morning!
